Look after your brush and your brush will look after you.

An acrylic brush is an important part of a Nail Technician's tool kit. They come with either natural bristles such as Kolinsky or man-made bristles. They can be oval, round, flat, or pinched and there are several different sizes. A smaller brush (Size 8 or 10) can be easier to apply product at the cuticle area whereas a larger size (12, 14, 16) enables a larger bead pick-up for clear capping. The choice comes down to personal preference.

When your new brush arrives there will be powder in the bristles which you will need to remove. The powder is there to keep the bristles intact during storage and transit. Use an orangewood stick to fan out the bristles and push the powder out. Make sure all the powder is out and soak the bristles in monomer.

To clean your brush after use make sure there's no acrylic left in the bristles; if there is and it's already started to go hard leave the brush in acetone (some techs will be crying at that advice) but it's the only thing to do to save that brush!! 10 minutes should do the trick then push the softened acrylic out of the brush with an orangewood stick. DISASTER AVERTED! Finally, soak the bristles in monomer and twizzle the brush to a nice shape before storing with the bristles downwards so the monomer doesn't run back into the handle. If your brush doesn't have a lid, lay the brush flat.
