DOES YOUR E-FILE TORQUE THE TORQUE?

Updated: Apr 11, 2023

What is Torque? Torque is like an invisible power - you can have all the rpm's (revolutions per minute) you want but if you've got no torque you're going nowhere fast; as soon as you apply any pressure the file will stop spinning or slip/jump.

Torque is the rotational or twisting force that provides the real power to the e-file. A high level of torque is more important than high rpms. For nail filing you are never going to need to go higher than 30,000 rpms and a good level of torque would be around 2.5 ncm (newton centimetres). Of course there are other things to think about when buying an e-file. First thing to consider is whether or not you are prepared to pay extra for a professional e-file. I would definitely recommend YES! to this question. Decent, professional e-files can range in price from around £85.00 to £300 - £400 depending on design and manufacturer.

A professional e-file will have a high level of torque, rpm's of around 30,000, a forward and reverse action (to be adjusted depending on whether you are right or left-handed) and a lightweight handpiece that's easy to grip and that takes standard sized e-file bits .

The motor of the e-file is in the hand-piece so this is the most expensive part of the e-file; if this breaks then it's going to cost almost the same to replace as a completely new e-file so it's worth considering the warranty that's being offered and any repair service available.

Cordless Portable E-File

Another great choice, especially for the mobile nail technician, is a cordless e-file; choose one with a digital display as these make it easy to read the file speed settings. I've added some links below of different e-files in different price brackets.

Well, hopefully this will help you choose the best e-file to suit your needs, help minimize your risk of repetitive strain injuries, speed up your service and earn you more money!
